I wrote this because I was having a lot of “bad days” and it was getting hard for me to think positively about my situation. I felt like I was meant to be miserable and that there was nothing I could do about it because I was a victim of my circumstance. I used this post as a reference whenever I felt like I couldn’t continue and it reminded me to keep thinking positively - eventually I started to feel better.

When you are faced with a difficult circumstance you need to think of yourself as someone walking through a dark tunnel. You’re walking forward in the middle of the tunnel so you cannot see the light that’s at the end of it, but the light is definitely there. Oftentimes when we are faced with difficult circumstances we figuratively stop walking. We focus all our time and effort into analyzing the dark tunnel, which is the difficult circumstance, and forget to keep moving forward while doing so.

Don’t get me wrong, it is necessary to analyze your situation when you go through a difficult time in your life, but you need to analyze your situation with the goal of learning from it. We too often analyze our situation with no goal in mind and thus we get lost in our thoughts or become saddened every time we think about what transpired or what’s transpiring. The goal should always be to grow and you should analyze your circumstance with that in mind. How are you going to grow from what you’ve experienced?

You should ask yourself questions like, “What did I do wrong,” “How can I learn from my mistakes,” and “What can I do differently next time?” These questions won’t stop you from feeling bad about what you went through or what you’re going through, but they’ll keep you moving forward while allowing you to still analyze the tunnel.

It’s easy to think negatively when you’re going through a difficult time, I need you to take the hard way out. I need you to try and think positively even though you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. There’s nothing wrong with analyzing your situation, but remember to grow from it. Don’t beat yourself up over mistakes you made or things that you cannot control because the moment you get caught in that cycle you’ve stopped walking. Don’t stop walking.
